BOSCH AUSTRALIAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

2 Mar 2012

With the countdown now on, the most exciting changes in the history of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship will take place with the start of Rally Calder running from March 2 - 4.

As the opening Round of the 2012 Bosch Australian Rally Championship and staged within the sprawling Calder Park complex on the outskirts of Melbourne, the inaugural Rally Calder will take the top class of Australian rallying into an environment that will test the most skilled drivers in Australian motorsport. “I think we’ve come up with a course unlike anything rallying in this country, or any country for that matter, has ever seen,” said Bosch ARC CEO Scott Pedder. “To say we’re excited to see how it tests the best rally drivers in Australia would be an understatement!” From tarmac to gravel, from industrial to open wasteland, the setting of Rally Calder will take drivers and spectators away from the usual forestry domains of special stage rallying and challenge them in ways not witnessed before.

“And for spectators the possibilities will be endless, unlike a normal rally where you might only get a few chances a day to see rally action – the spectator will have a plethora of viewing opportunities from the national circuit, Thunderdome, staging area, service park and the gravel “paddock”. And the real benefit of having multiple rally and motorsport disciplines within the one event is that you can choose the motorsport you want to watch and move around to see different corners.  This event has always been about the spectator, we love our sport and know it is exciting, and Rally Calder will take that passion to the people.” exclaimed Pedder. Spectators will be rewarded with action away from the outright stars of the Bosch ARC with the first ever Car Club Challenge, featuring drag, track and gymkhana disciplines.

2012 Rally Calder will commence with a Ceremonial Start on the night of Thursday March 1 outside official event headquarters, West Waters Hotel in Caroline Springs – a new and thriving township west of Melbourne and only minutes from Calder Park.  This free entry rally show will enable spectators to get up close and personal with the cars, stars and teams. Then all the action will kick off the following day (March 2nd) and go right the way through until March 4th!

  • Round 1 of the BOSCH Australian Rally Championship
See Australia’s best rally drivers battle it out over 27 tarmac, gravel and mixed surface “urban rally” stages across the weekend. Rally Calder, presented by East Coast Bullbars is the most unique event in the 45 year history of the Australian Rally Championship and what this event lacks in competitive distance compared to a normal BOSCH ARC round it makes up for in technical difficulty and promotional excitement. The BOSCH ARC field will be broken up into competitions for the BOSCH two-wheel drive Australian Rally Championship, BOSCH four-wheel drive Australian Rally Championship, Classics Australian Rally Championship, ECB World’s Best Alloy Bullbars Australian SUV Rally Challenge and also the rallyschool.com.au Australian Junior Rally Challenge. Crews will be going all out to get a jump on the opposition for the 2012 BOSCH Australian Rally Championship.
  • Round 1 of the CAMS Australian Tarmac Rally Championship
See these supercars twist and wind their way through the BOSCH Dome and National Circuit and take on the Thunderdome banking and chicanes at crazy speeds. Australia’s best tarmac rally drivers and cars will be in action over the 3 days across three separate stages repeated several times.
  • Round 1 of the Australian Side by Side (All-Terrain Vehicles) Rally Challenge
Polaris and CanAm are the Holden and Ford of the Powersports market and have joined forces with the BOSCH ARC to hold the first ever round of the Australian Side by Side Rally Challenge. Several tough challenges await competitors and their all-terrain vehicles and you can watch all the action from the ECB Paddock. See these “farm vehicles on steroids” compete against the clock over jumps, into ravines and across the open ground of Calder. Side by Side action can be seen over the full 3-days of the event.
  • ARC Just Car Insurance Forum Battle featuring Australia’s fastest road cars competing via a series of motorsport disciplines including Time Attack, One-Lap Dash, Gymkhana and Drag
Who will be crowned Australia’s best Online Car Forum? 2012 Rally Calder will see the first ever Online Car Forum challenge which brings together these car enthusiasts for a range of offline motorsport tests and challenges. Entry into the competition is restricted to only the very best modified road cars and drivers from each forum and marque which means great action and competition for spectators. The ARC Forum Battle will take place on Saturday 3rd March only.
